Colin Bodell

VP of Website Application Platform & Builder Tools at Amazon

As vice president of Website Application Platform & Builder Tools, Colin Bodell leads the development and operations of the Amazon website platform used worldwide by Amazon.com retail, subsidiaries and enterprise partner sites. Bodell also leads the team responsible for Amazon internal development tools and deployment systems.

Bodell came to Amazon.com in May 2006 from VA Software where he was CTO and VP Development SourceForge Enterprise. During his twenty eight year career, Bodell has served as a senior executive at WebGain, IntelliCorp and Micro Focus. Bodell is the technical representative on Amazon's Open Source Group that sets policy for the use and release of open source code and content by Amazon and its subsidiaries.

Jeff Barr

Senior Technical Evangelist at Amazon Web Services

Jeff Barr is a Senior Web Services Evangelist at Amazon Web Services, where he is focused on furthering awareness among software developers of the opportunity to innovate and build businesses using Amazon Web Services. In this role, he travels, speaks, blogs, and conducts virtual events. Jeff has a longstanding interest in Web services and programmatic information interchange.

Prior to Amazon.com, Jeff has held development and management positions at Microsoft, KnowNow, eByz, and Akopia and was a co-founder of Visix Software. He earned his Bachelor's degree in computer science from American University and performed graduate work in computer science at George Washington University.

Jeff is also a graduate student in the Digital Media program at the University of Washington. He has written over 1200 posts for the AWS blog and another 1100 for his personal blog. He's been a technical reviewer for 4 books on web services, wrote a chapter on advanced scripting for a book on Second Life, and is the author of Host Your Website in the Cloud, published by SitePoint in September of 2010.

Peter Commons

Director of Platform Interaction & Experience at Amazon

Peter Commons is Director of Platform Interaction & Experience at Amazon, where he leads multiple teams (split between Seattle and Iasi, Romania) that develop tools to collect, analyze, and share customer behavior and fleet performance data. He's also a core leader at Amazon on making sure that new hires are the best and brightest. Peter began his career writing software and games for the Macintosh, most notably Spaceward Ho!, a multi-player networked strategy game that is still for sale today. After spending many years contracting and/or consulting in the Silicon Valley for the likes of Apple, General Magic, and, Microsoft, he joined Amazon in 2005.

Jesper Johansson

Principal Security Engineer at Amazon

Jesper is a security engineer at Amazon. His work involves overseeing the technical security architecture for the company and protect its customers. Prior to Amazon, Jesper worked on security at Microsoft. He has written three books on security, hundreds of articles, and has delivered security presentations on every continent except Antarctica and South America.

Carlos Arguelles

Senior Software Design Engineer in Test (SDET) at Amazon

Carlos Arguelles is a Senior Software Design Engineer in Test (SDET) at the Website Applications Platform (WAP) at Amazon.com, where he is also acting QA Manager, leading a team of 20 SDETs. He has pioneered the concept of large scale load testing in production, presenting at Amazon Engineering Excellency Days and a number of other venues. Carlos has been at Amazon since 2009, working in the AWS team before joining WAP (testing Elastic Load Balancing, Cloud Watch, Auto Scaling and AWS Relational Database Service). Prior to that, Carlos spent 12 years at Microsoft. He was one of the initial members of the Natural Languages Group and was an Lead in charge of proofing tools for Microsoft Office. He shipped a number of natural language parsing features to Microsoft Bing, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft SQL during his tenure at Microsoft. Carlos holds a Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington and a BS in Computer Science, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Columbia.

Lucian Vornicu

General Manager of Amazon Development Center Romania

Lucian Vornicu is the General Manager of Amazon Development Center Romania. He joined Amazon on 2005, as the lead of the 15 people group who started the Romanian center. Since then, he was responsible with shaping the strategy and growing the site, which now has over 100 employees. Prior to Amazon, Lucian was a co-founder of Ecstend Software, a successful software company, and has worked for several years as a Software Engineer in the United States.

Florin Manolache

Software Development Manager at Amazon Development Center Romania

Florin Manolache joined Amazon Iasi in 2005, working in the Customer Community space on projects like Product Tags, Customer Profile, Author and Artist Pages. Since 2010 he moved to the Website Application Platform organization as a Software Development Manager of the Analytics team. His team owns tools for understanding customer behavior, detecting trends and making patterns visible to Analytics users. Before Amazon, Florin worked as a software architect and engineer for several companies from Iasi and later he was one of the co-founders of Ecstend Software.

Bogdan Ghidireac

Principal Engineer at Amazon Development Center Romania

Bogdan Ghidireac is a Principal Engineer at Amazon. In this role, he provides engineering leadership for multiple teams in Iasi office and he is accountable for the quality of the design and implementation of the systems they build and own. He joined in 2005 as a Software Development Manager, leading the Platform Search team that was responsible for architecting and building a real-time search service that indexed billions of documents. Prior to Amazon, Bogdan worked as Software Engineer for several local companies and later co-founded Ecstend Software.

Igor Spac

Software Development Manager at Amazon Development Center Romania

Igor Spac is the Software Development Manager of the Secure Ingestion team within Amazon Development Center Romania. He joined Amazon in 2005 as a Software Development Engineer and worked on various projects powering customer profile pages. From 2009 he lead the development team of Simple Email Service which is part of Amazon Web Services family and is the first AWS service developed in Romania. Starting with 2012, Igor took over the Secure Ingestion team which is responsible for securing critical customer data starting with the moment it lands in Amazon network. Prior to joining Amazon, Igor worked for a small start-up company developing home automation solutions.

Alex Burciu

Software Development Manager at Amazon Development Center Romania

Alexandru Burciu is a Software Development Manager running the Client-Side Metrics and Robot Detection teams within Amazon's Website Application Platform. He is responsible for the customer experience metrics produced by processing interaction data for billions of page-views which drive making Amazon's websites faster and easier to use. Alex joined Amazon in 2008 as a Software Development Engineer, after graduating Computer Science from the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University.

Aurelian Tutuianu

Aurelian Tutuianu is a Software Development Engineer within Amazon Development Center Romania. He joined Amazon in 2009 and is a member of A9 Platform Search team. Prior to joining Amazon, Aurelian was employed in broad range of companies from co-owned start-ups to consistent players in software industry (telecommunication, health-care, automotive, development tools).
